"Fanfare for the Trailblazer" World Premiere

Jan 28, 2024

'Patriot', 'Vanguard', 'Unsung Hero', and now 'Trailblazer'. The Southern California Brass Consortium celebrated their tenth anniversary today with a special concert, and I was lucky enough to compose a commemorative piece to honor the occasion.

"Fanfare for the Trailblazer" is an addition to the collection of collaborations written for this band, but it is special in that it says goodbye to the dear conductor and director of the band Hector Salazar who bittersweetly announced his last season with the group.

The music takes an outside-of-the-box approach, taking the listener on a six-minute journey from dark and disjointed, to peaceful and tranquil, and then to heroic and bold. The music is partially based on some scribblings that I had done while studying at USC's Thornton School of Music, but hadn't had a chance to fully realize until now.

Recording to come soon! I can't wait for you to hear it!
