Maffe, USC Records Master's Capstone

Apr 29, 2022

After two years of delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the USC Class of 2020 finally took the stage at Warner Brothers Studios to record their capstone project for their masters degree.

The final endeavor for students of the Thornton Screen Scoring program, students were tasked with choosing a film scene to rescore. They then juggled all the various hats of composing, mocking up, arranging, orchestrating, copying, and finally conducting the music on the podium of the Eastwood Scoring Stage in front of 65 of the worlds finest first-call scoring musicians.

"It's such a wonderful way to finish off what was one of the most formative experiences for me as a composer," Maffe says. "This project not only gives one an immense appreciation for the talented musicians who dedicate their lives to this craft, but also to the invaluable team one needs to surround oneself with in order to pull off something like this to a cinematic scale...it was also such a joy to see all my classmates and colleagues after these two long years."
